Forró

Pronounced fo-ho, it is a genre music and a form of Brazilian social Culture. The word Forró, or Forrobodó, refers to both an enjoyable social event and its musical backdrop. As a result of the Indigenous, African and European musical heritage developed in the Northeast of Brazil, the culture of Forró refers, mainly, to a collective celebration. As a party or social meeting and also a rhythm, Forró is intrinsically connected with the religious celebration for Saints John, Peter and Anthony which takes place in June. Currently, Forró has gone beyond its space-time borders and has been spread throughout Brazil and the world. The pieces above picture the Forró gathering with the musicians, their instruments, and the dancers.
